Studio Riposo

Heeji Hwang is a Seoul based artist who specializes in textile craft art. She focused on “Crafts for Contemporaries”, so she creating fabric art works that turn handicrafts into contemporary art and commercial products. For that she create works using a new materials that are unfamiliar to traditional crafts like transparent film, photo-luminescent. A prominent theme in her work is light. She thinks that light is not only perceived as a physical, but also a psychological matter towards humans, so she is studying various materials to visualize and materialize this light. Through her work she would like to focus on the reproduction of the forms of visualized light in the city through craftsmanship. HeeJi has been formally studying fine arts since 2009, graduated from the SungShin University in 2017 and recently get a master degree from the SungShin University in 2019. While studying at university she has won Korean tourist souvenir award and several other awards. Light and Pixel of City, HeeJi’s most recent solo show in Seoul, opened at Gallery Is in April 2019. She also currently founded an independent studio (studio riposo) in Seoul and continue to crate a craft art work & commercial products.
